Street Operations
The Streets Division is responsible for repairing potholes, minor street failures, sidewalk, curb and gutter repair, and utility cuts made by various franchises. Major street maintenance is also done (reconstruction including seal coating, overlays and heat scarification) to city streets.
Every 5-6 years, the Streets Division conducts a pavement study throughout the City of Denton. To conduct the study, a vehicle travels every street in the City to measure the condition of the streets pavement. With this data, the Streets Division determines a long-term schedule for maintenance and Capital Improvement Projects. Watch the video below to learn more about the process.

Micro-surfacing is a form of preventative roadway maintenance known as a surface treatment. The mixture consists of water, asphalt emulsion, and aggregate (very small, crushed rock) and is applied to a roadway’s existing pavement. Micro-surfacing is typically applied to roadways in good or better condition that may exhibit minor cracking or other surface defects. Micro-surfacing is designed to extend pavement life by 5 to 7 years and delay costly roadway repairs by protecting the underlying pavement from moisture penetration, oxidation, and degradation.
Micro-surfacing material hardens quickly without relying on the sun for evaporation, making streets that are heavily travelled and receive a lot of shade excellent candidates for this treatment. Micro-surfacing is usually applied using a specific type of truck called a “slurry truck.” Workers follow the truck with squeegees to ensure a smooth and even application. Once placed, micro-surfacing hardens within one to two hours.
